- Shami was going through personal and professional turmoil:
- His marriage was in crisis, with serious allegations of domestic violence and infidelity made publicly by his wife.
- He was being investigated by the BCCI at one point.
- His cricket career was under threat — he was dropped from some squads.
- He also suffered a car accident that left him physically injured.
😔 Shami’s Own Words:
In a 2020 interview, he said:
"There was a time I felt like ending my life. I used to lock myself in a room and just cry. I didn’t want to meet anyone. I thought of committing suicide three times."
He also said that he lost confidence completely and felt totally isolated.

- His family — especially his brother — stood by him and didn’t let him sink further.
- Slowly, with time and support, he returned to training and found strength again through cricket.
- He said that being able to talk to someone, and having people around him who didn't give up on him, saved his life.
